The Michelin Guide Hotel Selection introduces more than 5,000 outstanding hotels across over 120 countries, encompassing a wide range of price points and diverse styles.
The selection is based on five key criteria:
1. The hotel itself is a destination, offering an experience unique to its location
2. Exceptional architecture and interior design
3. A distinctive character that reflects the property’s unique features
4. High standards of service, comfort, and maintenance
5. An experience that offers value for its price
The “Selected (High-Quality Stay)” category is positioned below Michelin Key–rated properties and highlights accommodations recognized by Michelin for their overall quality.
In the 2025 Japan edition, a total of 125 hotels received Michelin Keys, while 234 properties were designated as “Selected,” with 359 accommodations featured in total.
